Their story
As assistant division commander of the 4th Infantry Division, Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt Jr. landed with the first wave at Utah Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and under fire repeatedly led troops over the seawall and reorganized the assault after they had come ashore off their intended landing point. He survived the invasion but died of a heart attack on July 12, 1944, in Normandy, France, and was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his D-Day leadership.
