Their story
A Harvard-educated lawyer, Pantaleoni volunteered for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in 1943 and, as a lieutenant colonel, personally led an intelligence-gathering reconnaissance mission behind German lines during the invasion of Sicily. He was captured by German forces and was killed on August 8, 1943, when the vehicle transporting him struck a landmine; his remains were never recovered. He is the grandfather of actress Tea Leoni.
