Their story
Over a period from November 16 to 29, 1944, Staff Sergeant Miller repeatedly led his squad and company in assaults on fortified German positions near Woippy, Metz, and Hemmersdorf, personally knocking out machine-gun nests, pillboxes, and strongpoints and capturing numerous enemy soldiers. He was killed on November 29, 1944, near Hemmersdorf, Germany, while leading his squad against an enemy minefield and machine-gun positions. For this gallantry he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
