Their story
On August 9, 1944, Captain Lindsey led a formation of 30 B-26 medium bombers against the strategic enemy-held railroad bridge over the Seine at L'Isle-Adam in occupied France. After his right engine was hit and his wing engulfed in flames, he held the lead and completed the bombing run, then kept the aircraft level so his crew could bail out safely; the right gasoline tank exploded before he could escape, killing him.
